ERA-EDTA 2017 Madrid symposium review
In the lunch symposium entitled: “New biocompatible haemodiafiltration (HDF) membrane to enable maximum substitution for sensitive patients”, held during the EDTA 2017, Nipro introduced their new semi-natural asymmetric membrane, SOLACEA. The SOLACEA is a membrane, well equipped to perform high volume convective therapies, like high volume online HDF, while maintaining the good biocompatible characteristics to treat sensitive patients.
In this symposium, Prof. R. Selgas introduced the reason for the need of good alternative membranes for sensitive patients. However at this moment, most of these alternative membranes on the market are not capable to sustain high convective therapies (> 20 l/session). The new SOLACEA membrane is ideal for high volume HDF without major albumin losses, as highlighted by one of the key opinion leaders in the field of high volume HDF, Dr. F. Maduell. The excellent biocompatibility of the SOLACEA was addressed by the key opinion leader, Dr. T. Tomo, who showed that the SOLACEA induced the lowest amount of micro-inflammation in high volume HDF therapy. Combined, these talks emphasize the added value of the SOLACEA on the current dialyzer market.
